I recently brought in my Toyota for what thought was a major problem. I have been using Mike for over 20 years for exactly what I am about to describe. This is an extremely honest and patient shop. They go the extra mile and actually take the time to diagnose the problem. I know we all want our cars back immediately because of how busy we are but this was not the best option for me. I needed an accurate diagnosis. I came in and started to explain what was going on with my truck. I explained that it had only happened twice over the course of a month but when it happened the second time I knew something was wrong. Mike listened and asked a bunch of questions about the symptoms. At that point Mike asked if I had time to go on a test drive with him. I thought this was a great idea because I knew exactly what it did but was having a tough time explaining it and it was subtle. So we set out on our test drive. You guessed it, truck ran great, the problem never appeared. At this point, I didn't really know what to do. Mike suggested leaving the truck and letting him take a closer look at the mechanics of the parts that could have caused the problem. He gave me a loaner car and said call him the next day. I called back the next day and he said they were able to take it apart and there was not any visible damage to the parts, it must be how the parts come together and perhaps the pressure was not equal and that was causing a problem as the car got up to speed. So he asked if he could keep it another day. I had to use the truck so I took it back. About a week later, I received a call from Mike, he had been researching what could have been causing the problem. He explained that in that model and year there had been a few different issues. He explained the issues and suggested I drop off the truck at my convenience. So I did. He also explained that depending on the options this repair could be as cheap as $95 and up to 4500 if the entire unit had to be replaced. I authorized him to start the work. While he was explaining to the mechanic what he wanted done to start the process they took the truck on a test drive. Guess what, I wasn't insane , the truck did what it had done for me while they were test driving it. Mike called me to tell me this and that he was optimistic it wasn't the 4500 problem. They took the truck back apart and pinpointed the problem to a small part within the unit. He replaced to part and test drove the car. I went down to pickup up the car and Mike took the time to show me the part he had replaced, how it worked and why it was such an intermittent problem. I could see it was just at the very beginning of failure. I probably could have driven around for another six months or longer before it actually failed and left me stranded. The repair was less then 200.00. The truck runs great. Sorry for the long review but I can't emphasize how great this shop is. It reminded me what initially led me to mikes shop was an air conditioner compressor problem on my old ford escort. I was told it needed a new compressor for a lot of money by a few shops. Mike asked me why I thought I needed a new compressor?? I said because the other shops told me I did and I wanted to see what your price was. He asked if he could pull the car in. I said yes. I sat in the waiting room for about 20 minutes before he came out. He said you are good to go. I asked him how much would the new compressor be and he said 95 cents and laughed. I remember looking at him like he was crazy until he put the old clip from the ac compressor on the counter. He said he sees this sometimes where the the clip gets broken or torn and it doesn't power the compressor correctly. He could have easily just given me a quote or put a compressor on but he didn't. This is a great shop and I am glad he is close and I would highly recommend taking any type of car or truck to to fox run. They are patient honest and are willing to put in the time to diagnose the problem. I know I got lucky twice but I could have easily been out 5k and wouldn't have known the difference.
