How Often Do I Need an Oil Change?

That's usually around every 6,000 miles or so for the average modern car. Some advanced engine designs may only require an oil change every 10,000 miles. However, periodic oil changes are still needed for most vehicles.
Reasons You Need Oil Changes
So, why do we need to change the engine oil and filter? Even if your engine is running fine right now, it needs fresh, clean oil to function properly. If the oil level is too low or the oil itself is old, dirty, thick or crusty, it will not provide the necessary lubrication to fast-moving engine parts. This means the components like the pistons won't move as freely. They can start to get stuck or you have metal rubbing on metal with high levels of friction. This is how engines become damaged, or can fail completely.
