As we talked about in last week's blog post, a lot of people are getting back on the road this summer. Life is starting to return back to normal with people taking road trips or just returning to their offices. You may not have not driven much in the past year, but that also means you may not have done much maintenance to your vehicle(s).
Automotive Maintenance: Mileage vs. Time
Some people think of routine maintenance as only a mileage-based task. You get your oil changed and tires rotated every 5,000-6,000 miles. You didn't put as many miles on your car, so there hasn't been a need for maintenance. Unfortunately, time can also take its toll on certain vehicle parts. If your car has just been sitting around and gathering dust the past 14 months, it will likely require some maintenance. Fluids can corrode and evaporate. Gaskets, hoses and connections can weaken. The battery can lose power. Tires lose pressure. Brake pads dry out. There are any number of issues that can develop when a vehicle isn't used very often.
Service Specials
First, it's a good idea to take advantage of some of the maintenance service specials we are offering at Fox Run Auto. Check out last week's blog to learn more about the services and discounts we are providing to help Northern Delaware drivers get safely back on the road.
Does Something Feel Wrong?
Even if you have had some maintenance done, you just want to play it safe while out on the road again. If you hear, feel or smell anything unusual while driving, do not ignore it. You probably know what your vehicle feels like when it's performing normally. You may feel a little rusty as a driver, but you can usually tell when something isn't right with your car. If there are any worries, you don't want to leave anything to chance.
Bring your vehicle into your local mechanic—if you live in Northern Delaware, Fox Run Auto is here to help! Get a professional inspection and have diagnostic tests run to make sure everything is running right. If there is a problem, we can let you know what it is and what it will cost to take care of the repairs. It's better to have peace of mind when getting back out on the road than worrying about something being wrong with your family's car, truck or SUV.
