What Does the ABS Warning Light Mean? ABS stands for the anti-lock braking system. The system is put in place to keep the driver safe by preventing wheel lockup when you apply brakes. It prevents the car from skidding and gives you more control over its steering. A warning light is placed on the dashboard and it illuminates when there is an issue in the anti-lock braking system that requires your attention. What Reasons Cause ABS Light to Come On? Here are common reasons that cause the ABS light to come on: 1. Low Levels of Brake Fluid The brake fluid enables the anti-lock braking system to control the pressure. There is even a reservoir that holds the fluid for the ABS. If there is a leak in the system, the pressure falls, and the reservoir's fluid levels go down.
